The Pod Squad Hits the Road
Even though summer is coming to an end, it doesn’t mean your dreams of travel have to fizzle out too. Travel deals can be found year round, and it’s always fun to start thinking about new adventures. When the travel bug starts to whisper in my ear (this is before I get officially bitten by the bug), I like to listen to some of my favorite travel podcasts to hear about interesting spots and cheap ways of getting there. Here are some great resources for adventure planning, whether you’re a beach person, Euro traveler, wine lover & foodie, or just need to get the H out of Dodge.
Extra Pack of Peanuts, or EPOP- This is the first travel podcast I discovered (and my fav). It features married couple Travis and Heather Sherry and recounts their adventures around the world and offers great tips on how to “travel without breaking the bank.” Amen to that.
Rick Steves First, let me say I’m geeked out by Rick Steves, who is probably the #1 Travel Nerd out there. I mean that in a loving way. Second, while Rick has several podcasts, I prefer the straight up Travel With Rick Steves. He gives practical, detailed info in sort of a folksy way that you don’t want to admit that you secretly like. Sort of similar to not wanting to tell friends in high school that you like watching PBS.
She Explores - This female hosted podcast is all about “Inquisitive women in the outdoors, on the road, and besides.” Solo hiking, camping, entrepreneurship, aging, diversity, equity… She Explores covers a wide range of topics. The common thread? All of the guests talk about their outdoor experiences and how they’re making an impact on the world, on and off the trail.
Indie Travel Podcast - Indie travelers are the target market for this podcast hosted by married couple Craig and Linda. These two Australian natives travel the world giving travel tips for independent travelers. They talk to an array of interesting people they meet on the road and tell of fabulous opportunities to fund our travel banks. From how to plan a trip to Europe to the top things to do in Milwaukee, Craig and Linda offer interesting tidbits that make you want to pack your bags and hit the road.
Driftr - Let’s say you’re not quite sure where you want to go, you just know you want to get there on the cheap. Or maybe you want to know how to get over jet lag. Perhaps you’d like intel on what to do if your flight gets canceled and you don’t find out until you get to the airport. This podcast dives deep into the nitty gritty of travel, offering helpful tips to make your trip more enjoyable and a better value. Tune in for exclusive travel tips to change your travel life for the better!
I hope these podcasts give you some great ideas on unique and affordable getaways for your next adventure! As always, please share your tips below… travel podcasts, travel tips, or great destination ideas. Thanks!
